A man tried to go off with a 3 year in a Southampton park

Were you in Riverside Park, Southampton today, Friday, August 17?  Did you see anything unusual? 
 
Detectives are investigating an allegation that a man attempted to walk off with a 3 year old girl. 
 
This very unusual incident occurred at approximately 3.30pm near to the miniature railway and close to the children’s play park. The child was playing near to her mother when a man came along and lifted her up into his arms.  The mother immediately challenged the man and took her daughter from him. 
 
The man then continued walking in the direction towards Cobden Bridge. 
 
He is described as:
White with a slight tan
Aged 35 – 40 years old
5 ft 6 to 5ft 7ins tall
Slim build
Gaunt face with prominent cheekbones
Very short dark hair but- not receding
Stubbly goatee with stubble around the face and wrinkles around the eyes and greasy skin
Local accent
He was wearing a black T-shirt and dark baggy stonewashed jeans
